What is nurse hat?

A nurse hat, also known as a nursing cap or nursing bonnet, is a traditional head covering worn by nurses as part of their uniform. It typically consists of a white fabric cap with a starched brim and a band that goes around the head.

Nurse hats were once a standard part of the nursing uniform, symbolizing professionalism and authority in the healthcare setting. They were originally designed to keep a nurse's hair out of her face and to maintain a clean and hygienic appearance.

However, nurse hats have largely fallen out of use in modern healthcare settings, as many hospitals and healthcare facilities have adopted more comfortable and practical uniforms for their staff. Today, nurse hats are mostly seen as a nostalgic symbol of the nursing profession's history and traditions.

Some nursing schools still incorporate the wearing of nurse hats into their graduation ceremonies as a nod to the profession's heritage. Additionally, some nurses may choose to wear a nurse hat as a personal statement or to pay homage to the history of nursing.
